πŸ› οΈ Setting Up Rancher Training Environment via RDP: A Step-by-Step Guide πŸš€

Welcome to this guide where I'll walk you through the process of connecting to a remote server via RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol) and practicing Rancher hands-on in your own environment! This tutorial is part of our Rancher training series to ensure you get up and running smoothly. 🌱

By the end of this guide, you'll be able to connect, interact with Rancher, and understand the basic setup required to manage your clusters effectively.

πŸ’‘ What You’ll Achieve

  • 🎯 Connect to the Rancher server using RDP

  • 🎯 Explore Rancher’s interface for cluster management

  • 🎯 Set up your first Kubernetes cluster within Rancher

Let’s get started! πŸ’ͺ

πŸ–₯️ Step 1: Get the RDP Credentials πŸ”‘

To connect to our Rancher training server, you'll need the RDP credentials. These will be provided during the training session. Make sure you have:

  • IP Address or Server Name

  • Username

  • Password

Ensure that you have Remote Desktop installed on your local machine. For Windows, this is built-in. For macOS or Linux, you may need to download it.

πŸ“² Step 2: Launching Remote Desktop

  • Open Remote Desktop Connection on your device.

  • On Windows, simply type Remote Desktop Connection in the start menu.

  • On macOS or Linux, launch your preferred RDP app (like Microsoft Remote Desktop).

  • Enter the Server IP or Name provided:

Enter the server address into the 'Computer' field.

  • Hit Connect to access the Rancher server.

πŸ› οΈ Step 3: Logging into Rancher

Once you're connected via RDP, you'll see the desktop of our server environment. Rancher is already installed and running!

  • Open your web browser on the server.

  • Navigate to the Rancher URL (usually http://localhost:8080 or another specified address).

  • Log in with the credentials provided.

πŸš€ Step 4: Create Your First Cluster

Now that you’re logged into Rancher, let’s create your first Kubernetes cluster!

  • On the Rancher dashboard, click β€œAdd Cluster”.

  • Follow the prompts to set up a cluster using the default settings.

  • πŸŽ‰ Congratulations! You've set up your first cluster. Take some time to explore the interface and familiarize yourself with the options available.
