ILR Status

ILR, or Indefinite Leave to Remain, is a status that can be a hassle for immigrants. With my visa type the normal waiting time is 5 years at the moment. In my case, it has been over 6 years and I have been unable to apply for ILR due to various reasons. First, my contract in Switzerland made it difficult to meet the eligibility criteria. Additionally, my wife's delayed entry to the UK made the application process unclear and more complex.

After 16 long months, we are finally in the process of applying for ILR. However, each application costs around 2500 pounds, which can be a significant financial burden for those living month to month or relying on side hustles. Nevertheless, obtaining ILR is an important milestone for many immigrants. For me, it would open up the possibility of applying for the E2 visa in the USA through the company I have created. This week, we just had the year-end reports for the company. So, once we complete the application process, we will enter a 2-8 week waiting game before I can travel. As a global contractor, I often need to travel for work. However, with the application process ongoing, traveling is out of the question.
